Our History

In 1982, Pat Skaggs, Founder of a Wish with Wings, Inc., read a newspaper article about a child from Arkansas with a brain tumor. His Wish was to go to Six Flags and have a "real Mexican food meal." After reading the article, Pat decided to do some volunteer work in this venue.

At the time, there were no such agencies in Texas. She called the Wish agency in Arkansas and talked to a lady for two hours. By the end of the conversation, she wasn't convinced she could do anything, but the picture of the small boy continued to haunt her.

She then called a good friend and said, "Guess what we're going to do?" After completing the technical and legal legwork necessary, then learning the in's and out's of Wish-granting, a Wish with Wings was born.

In most cases, it was beyond the ability of the parents to provide the Wish for their child. Their whole world frequently consisted of just keeping their child alive. There was no energy, time or money to grant the Wish of a child. For this reason, Pat knew she had to make it happen. The rest, they say, is history.

Twenty-five plus years later, more than 1,000 Wishes of children suffering life-threatening diseases have been granted.
